Program Overview

The Star Ratings program helps accommodation providers build credibility, attract more guests, and deliver stays that meet consistently high standards of quality.

It is Australia’s only nationally consistent accommodation rating system, recognised by travellers and trusted by the industry.

A Star Rating is determined by more than 200 criteria ranked by Australian travellers, covering everything from cleanliness, maintenance, and facilities to guest safety, security, and comfort. Each rating is independently verified, giving guests confidence that every Star Rated property meets the standards promised.

For Australian accommodation businesses, achieving an official Star Rating delivers:

  • Marketing visibility – promote your property with the official Star Ratings symbol across signage, websites, booking platforms, and digital marketing campaigns.

  • Customer trust and loyalty – reassure guests with a nationally recognised endorsement that highlights your property’s quality, professionalism, and reliability.

  • Competitive advantage – stand out in a crowded marketplace with an independently verified rating that travellers actively use to compare and choose accommodation.

  • Industry recognition – align your business with the Quality Tourism Accreditation program, demonstrating compliance with national standards and building credibility across the tourism sector.

To be eligible for a Star Rating, properties must meet minimum business standards through Quality Tourism Accreditation. This includes compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, appropriate insurance, documented housekeeping procedures, effective maintenance, and guest safety requirements.

With an official Star Rating, accommodation providers gain more than just a symbol — they gain a mark of trust that influences traveller decisions and supports long-term business success.

FOR CONSUMERS

The Star Ratings Australia consumer site makes it easy for travellers to discover and compare accommodation options that meet consistently high standards of quality.

Travellers can explore properties by location, category, and rating, making it simple to find the right stay — whether it’s a budget-friendly motel, a family holiday park, or a luxury hotel.

The site also features the annual “Gold List”, showcasing the best-rated properties from across the country. These top-performing operators represent the highest standards within the Star Ratings program, offering guests extra reassurance when booking their stay.

By using Star Ratings Australia, consumers can book with confidence, knowing their accommodation has been independently verified, nationally recognised, and trusted by Australian travellers.
